Bystander Intervention Program: We Are Called

We are called as members of the Catholic University community to look out for each other. Can you identify potentially dangerous situations? Do you know how to safely intervene if someone needs help? This bystander intervention workshop covers the tools to become Empowered Bystanders, and provides the opportunity to practice intervention techniques in this activity based workshop.

Denim Day

This day encourages all members of the campus community to wear denim to raise awareness against destructive attitudes that exist surrounding sexual assault.

Empowerment Week

This week of programs in April provides students with the opportunity to speak out in support of survivors of sexual violence while practicing self-care.

Healthy Masculinity Awareness Month

This month focuses on programs and educational campaigns that celebrate the strength of men on campus and their role as partners and advocates in sexual violence prevention.

Healthy Relationships Awareness Month

This month focuses on exploring what it means to be in a healthy relationship, both in dating relationships and in friendships. Various departments and organizations collaborate with PEERS to offer active events and educational campaigns throughout the month.

It's on US

In November 2014 PEERS produced CUA's own "It's On Us" video with the help of 30 students, staff, and faculty.

Purple Thursdays

This weekly campaign in October encourages all members of the Catholic University community to wear purple to stand in solidarity with survivors of relationship violence, including dating violence and domestic violence. Faculty staff and students are offered purple ribbons to show their support. Resources and information about Relationship Violence Awareness Month events will be available in the Pryzbyla Center each Thursday.

Relationship Violence Awareness Month

Each October, the Office of the Dean of Students in collaboration with PEERS encourages the community to raise awareness of instances of relationship violence and support survivors on our campus.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Every April the Office of the Dean of Students and PEERS offer various programs, events and educational campaigns to educate and raise awareness around the topic of sexual assault.

Take Back the Night

This campus event as a part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an opportunity for students to rally to bring an end to sexual, relationship, and domestic violence in all forms. Intentionally striking a balance between remembrance and empowerment, Take Back The Night features stories of brave members of our own community.

Teal Tuesdays

Each Tuesday in April PEERS invites students, faculty and staff to wear teal to raise awareness and support for survivors of sexual violence in our community. PEERS are available in the Pryzbyla Center Lobby each Tuesday with teal ribbons, information about Sexual Assault Awareness Month events and resources.

The Clothesline Project

The Clothesline Project is a visual display that bears witness to violence against women. All who have been affected by sexual violence are invited to submit a shirt designed with a message or illustration.

Dean of Students staff and / or the PEERS are available to train students on a variety of topics related to alcohol and other drugs. Contact cua-deanofstudents@cua.edu to schedule training or to learn how we can customize a training for your group of students.

PEERS

PEERS (Peer Educators Empowering Respectful Students) plan programs throughout the year in conjunction with the Office of the Dean of Students that are both educational and fun. PEERS collaborates with student organizations and departments to present on topics such as alcohol and other drug use and abuse, healthy relationships, bystander intervention, mental health awareness and sexual assault and violence education.
